The goals of the Library are:
- To add new titles and to preserve them
- The field of the acquisition corresponds to the research work in the Institute of Geology and Geography
- To serve readers
- To provide the Inter Library Loan service.
The library's holdings has been compiled since 1948. The name, the structure and the subordination of the institute changed several times during the period of of the half of the century. The stock of the library and its subordination changed as well. The institutes of Geology and Geography were joined into one 2002. The department of The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences at the institute was established in December 2002.
The holdings of the department include issues on geology and geography.
